New Traffic Pattern In Effect For Opening Of New School In Cheshire

CHESHIRE, CT — With the opening of the new Barnum Elementary School when students head back to school next week, Cheshire police are advising motorists of some changes to traffic patterns in the area.

The Cheshire Police Department Support Services Division put together a video to “help parents, staff, and motorists become familiar with the new traffic flow and know what to expect as the school year gets underway,” according to a post on the department’s Facebook page.

“As students return to school on September 8, Cheshire Police Officers will also be increasing traffic enforcement in all school zones throughout town,” police wrote in the post. “We ask all motorists to be especially mindful during school arrival and dismissal times. Please obey posted speed limits, watch for pedestrians and crossing guards, and always stop for pedestrians in crosswalks.

“Whether you’re dropping off a student or simply traveling through a school zone, please plan ahead, allow a little extra time, slow down, and stay alert. A few extra minutes and a little patience can make a big difference in keeping our students safe.”
