Obituary: James Patrick ‘Jim’ Dempsey Jr., 54, of Cheshire

He was one of the assistant coaches for the Cheshire High School Lacrosse Program, where he had been coaching for 32 years.

James Patrick “Jim” Dempsey Jr., 54, of Cheshire, passed away Wednesday, June 24, 2020, after a brief illness. He was born on March 1, 1966, in Brooklyn, NY and moved to Cheshire, CT at 3 months old. He was the son of Carol (Hogan) Dempsey and the late Cheshire Policeman, James P. Dempsey.

Jim graduated from Cheshire High School (Class of ’84) and perfected his lacrosse game as SCSU. He was one of the Assistant Coaches for the Cheshire High School Lacrosse Program, where he had been coaching for 32 years. Helping guide the teams to state titles in 2002 and 2010. He was named the 2010 Class L U.S. Lacrosse Assistant Coach of the Year.

He is the beloved father of Alison Dempsey of Cheshire; and is survived by his mother Carol Dempsey of Cheshire; his brother Michael, his wife Rita and nephew Michael Dempsey of Wolcott; sister Cathleen Dempsey of Cheshire; and brother Daniel, his wife Lisa and nephews Colin, Jake and Sean Dempsey all of Cheshire. He will also be missed by his Godmother, Mary Ann Buckley and husband Robert of Stratford; and his Aunt Margaret “Peggy” McGuinness of Rockaway Park, NY and Aunt Carmen McNamara of Somerset, NJ, and many, many cousins.

The Alderson-Ford Funeral Home of Cheshire is assisting with arrangements. Memorial contributions can be made to the James Dempsey Boys High School Scholarship. Donations should be made payable to the Cheshire Lacrosse Club, 84 Lynwood Drive Extension, Cheshire, CT 06410. The scholarship is awarded to a graduating Senior.
