Upon his retirement Thomas loved spending time with his grandchildren and attending their sports games and activities. In addition, Thomas and Cynthia would travel extensively with friends and family to Florida, various islands in the Caribbean, Alaska, UConn Women’s Basketball Final Fours, Cooperstown, along with many golf trips.

However, his favorite place to escape was South Wellfleet, Cape Cod where he had vacationed since a child. The tradition continued with Cynthia spending a month at Cooks by the Sea for many years. Thomas’ favorite week was when the entire immediate family also including his siblings, nieces and nephews would vacation in nearby cottages. Thomas’ cottage was the first after ascending the sand dune from the beach and generally where happy hour started with the entire family each day.
