Resident Finds Burglar in Home, Nearby School Briefly Locked Down: Cheshire Police
The suspect fled on foot after being spotted by the homeowner, leading to the brief lockdown Tuesday morning. Police are investigating.

CHESHIRE, CT — Dodd Middle School was briefly placed in a lockdown Tuesday morning as Cheshire Police investigated a burglary-in-progress report. A Lincoln Drive resident reported the burglary at about 7:45 a.m., according to police.
The homeowner discovered a white male inside of his home and, when noticed, the suspect fled from the residence on foot in an unknown direction, according to Lt. Jeffrey Sutherland.
“Due to the close proximity to Dodd Middle School, the school was notified and students being brought to the school remained on their respective buses until enough school and police personnel were available to ensure their safety entering the school,” Sutherland said in a press release. “Students remained on the buses for a very short time before being let into the school for the school day.”

Police searched the Lincoln Drive area and surrounding neighborhoods and the State of Connecticut Department of Corrections provided two K-9 units to assist with a track from the residence, according to Sutherland.
The K-9 track led away from the neighborhood through the woods heading in a westbound direction before the scent was lost, Sutherland said.
