SCC Adds Girls' Golf As Sponsored Sport
Cheshire is one of six SCC schools that currently has a varsity girls' golf team.

Girls’ golf will be a league-sponsored sport starting in the 2016-17 academic year, the Southern Connecticut Conference’s Board of Governors unanimously voted on Thursday, May 12.
Girls’ golf is the first sport since girls’ ice hockey in 2012 that has been added by the SCC, which will host a postseason tournament and have all-league individual recognition (including a Golfer and Coach of the Year).
The SCC now offers 28 sports (14 for boys, 14 for girls) plus cheerleading. The conference hosts postseason competitions in all sports, except football.

Currently, six member schools (Amity Regional, Cheshire, Daniel Hand, Lauralton Hall, Mercy and Sacred Heart Academy) have varsity girls’ golf teams. SCC teams have been competing in the Southern Connecticut Girls Golf League. Girls’ golf is a CIAC-sanctioned sport.
“This is another great opportunity for the SCC to give student-athletes a chance to compete for a league title and earn recognition for their efforts,” SCC commissioner Al Carbone said in a press release. “Much credit and thanks to the girls golf coaches and athletic directors for allowing this to be realized.”

In the past several years, other SCC schools have had girls who competed on boys teams. They now will have the chance to compete for a league title and earn individual accolades.
