1 Dead, 2 Injured In Cheshire Crash: UPDATE

One driver has died following a serious crash on Route 70 in Cheshire. Two others, including a child, were injured in the crash.

CHESHIRE, CT — One person was killed in a two-vehicle crash Friday afternoon on Waterbury Road (Route 70) in Cheshire, police said in an update on Friday night. Both drivers suffered significant injuries in the crash, which occurred around 12:10 p.m. on Route 70 between Winslow Road and Marion Road.

Both drivers needed to be extricated from the vehicles, according to Lt. Michael Durkee. A juvenile was in a child safety seat and didn’t need to be extricated, Durkee said.

Both drivers were taken to St. Mary’s Hospital and one died from their injuries. The other driver has significant but non-life-threatening injuries and the juvenile has minor injuries, according to Durkee.

The Naugatuck Valley Crash Investigation Team remained on the scene Friday night to investigate the crash. The road was closed several hours but has since been reopened.

The cause of the accident is still under investigation, according to Durkee.

Durkee said police will not release the names of the drivers until proper notifications are made.
