Victim Identified In Fatal Crash On I-84 In Cheshire: UPDATE

A motorcycle operator died in one of several crashes that occurred on I-84 on Tuesday afternoon.

CHESHIRE, CT — A Middletown man was killed in a crash on I-84 East in Cheshire Tuesday afternoon when he was ejected from his motorcycle after it collided with a truck that was stopped in heavy traffic from a multi-car collision, according to Connecticut State Police. A portion of I-84 East was closed for several hours as a result of several crashes.

Charles Tuscano, 62, of Plaza Drive in Middletown, was transported to Saint Mary’s Hospital and later died from his injuries, according to state police. (To sign up for Cheshire breaking news alerts and more, click here.)

Police said that based on preliminary investigation, a Ford F150 truck operated by Robert Pallman, 42, of Wallingford, was stopped in heavy traffic in the right lane on I-84 East near Exit 27 for a multi-car collision ahead.

Tuscano was traveling behind the truck on his motorcycle and it had just rained and the roadway was wet and there was heavy traffic, according to police. Tuscano was attempting to stop for traffic when his motorcycle veered left and struck the rear driver’s side portion of the truck.

Tuscano was ejected from his motorcycle and transported to Saint Mary’s Hospital with serious injuries and later died from his injuries, police said.

Pallman was not injured in the collision, according to police.

The initial crash that involved multiple vehicles occurred at about 4:45 p.m. on I-84 East near Exit 27 in Cheshire.

Police said that there were several multi-vehicle crashes and about four other people were transported to local hospitals for the evaluation of non-life-threatening injuries.

All of the collisions remain under investigation, according to police.
