1 Person Dead, Another Seriously Injured in Head-On Motor Vehicle Crash in Clinton

Police said first responders had to extricate both victims from their vehicles.

CLINTON, CT — One person is dead after a head-on collision just before 4 p.m. Thursday near the intersection of Route 81 and Rocky Ledge Drive in Clinton, police said.

A second person sustained serious injuries in the crash, police said. Both victims were hospitalized and one person died while at the hospital. No identification of the deceased has been released until the family is notified. Police are investigating what led to the accident.

Clinton police, fire and EMS all responded to the accident scene at 3:43 p.m. "Upon arrival emergency personnel determined that both operators (that were the lone occupants of the involved vehicles) were seriously injured, both of whom required extrication by the Fire Department in order to free them from their vehicles," police said in a news release.

Route 81 was closed for an extended period of time in order for police to conduct an on scene investigation, but the road has since been re-opened to routine traffic, police said.
