OLD SAYBROOK, CT — A family-owned Vietnamese restaurant that has been part of Old Saybrook since 1996 is seeking the community's support after a devastating fire.
Saigon City has been "a welcoming place where friends and families gather to enjoy delicious Vietnamese cuisine," according to a GoFundMe for the restaurant.
"Their journey began when Vu and Bernadette escaped Vietnam and came to the United States in 1980, determined to build a new life and share their love of food with their new community," the fundraiser reads. "Over the years, Saigon City has become a cherished part of Old Saybrook, serving both local residents and visitors, and creating lasting relationships along the way."
A kitchen fire earlier this month forced the eatery to shut down for an indefinite period.

"This unexpected event has been incredibly stressful for Vu, Bernadette, (and sons) Erik, and Max, as they now face the challenge of rebuilding and recovering from the damage," the GoFundMe reads.
The money raised will go toward helping the family pay bills and expenses while they work to restore Saigon City.
"The family is deeply grateful for the decades of support, the thousands of great friends and family they have made along the way, and the many memories they have shared."
As of Friday morning, the fundraiser had generated $5,094.
