Car Crash Leads To Discovery Of Narcotics, Illegal Firearms By Clinton Police, Officials Say

CLINTON, CT — The local police department is reporting a busy start to the year, with various initiatives and incidents highlighted in recent reports, according to meeting minutes from the February police commission meeting.
The Town Council is scheduled to conduct a public hearing on March 25, 2026, to discuss Automated External Traffic Safety Devices (AETSDs). There is a recognized need to clarify the differences between AETSDs and FLOCK cameras due to public confusion, officials said.
Deputy Chief Cain's report detailed January's activities, including an ongoing case where Officer Potter responded to a car into a pole incident. The investigation led to the discovery of narcotics and illegal firearms within the vehicle, officials said. Separately, a "smash and grab" incident at Kay Jewelers resulted in one arrest, with warrants issued for two additional suspects, officials said.

The FLOCK camera system has proven successful in recent operations. Officers were alerted to the presence of a known shoplifter, leading to his arrest despite his attempt to evade detection by parking at the library, officials said. Motor vehicle enforcement has increased significantly, with an educational goal.
