Clinton Primary Election 2017: Results
Democrats and Republicans held primary elections for several posts, including First Selectmen and Board of Selectmen, on Tuesday.

CLINTON, CT — Republican challenger Kirk Carr defeated incumbent First Selectman Bruce Farmer in Tuesday’s municipal primary election. Carr received 451 votes while Farmer finished with 245. In the Democratic primary for First Selectman, party-endorsed candidate Christine Goupil defeated Lynn Pinder 604-288.
In addition to the First Selectman race, there were several other primary elections held for seats on the Board of Selectmen, Board of Finance and Judge of Probate.
In the Democratic primary for Board of Selectmen, Tim Guerra and Jack Scherban won in a three-way race with William W. Fritz Jr. Scherban received 633 votes, Guerra had 597 and Fritz finished with 355.

In the Republican primary for Board of Selectmen, Phil Sengle and Carol Walter won in a three-way race with John Giannotti. Sengle received 491 votes, while Carol Walter had 365 and Giannotti finished with 286. (To sign up for Clinton breaking news alerts and more, click here.)
In the Democratic primary for Board of Finance, the top three vote-getters will be on the ballot in November. Dara Onofrio had the most votes at 646 and was followed by John W. Olson, 604, Michael Smith, 598, and Leah Saunders, 394.

In a multi-town Republican primary for Judge of Probate, Anselmo Delia defeated Kevin J. Hecht in the 33rd District (which covers Chester, Clinton, Deep River, Essex, Haddam, Killingworth, Lyme, Old Saybrook and Westbrook). In Clinton, Delia received 444 votes and Hecht had 228.
There are 2,923 registered Democrats in Clinton and there were 902 votes cast in Tuesday’s primary for a 31-percent voter turnout, according to the Town Clerk’s office.
There are 2,579 registered Republicans in Clinton and 715 votes cast for a 28-percent voter turnout in the Republican primary.
