May 2016 Clinton Rotary Club’s Morgan School Student of the Month,

Joe Buffington.

Joe is a Junior at Morgan School. Per his Nominating Teacher, Kate Iverson, he stands out in so many ways as a student at Morgan but also in the Clinton Community. Joe is a member of Clinton Boy Scout Troop 7 where he gives of himself by mentoring younger Scouts. This year he put his sports activities on hold to focus on academics as well as completing his Eagle Scout Project. Through his hard work, a lot of hours and dedication, Joe was able to achieve the high honor of Eagle Scout this year.

Joe has also demonstrated teamwork as an active member of Morgan REACT. He has helped with many school events. Last summer, he took part in the Partners in Community program that brought teenagers from the shoreline together in New Haven for a day-long district meeting. Topics for discussion included how to get their new opinions and ideas heard in their hometown communities and to learn new ideas from their peers. Joe also gives back to the community by volunteering at the Annual MS Walk/Fundraiser, Clinton Police Department Drug Take Back Day; reflagging at the local cemeteries; participating in the spring/fall clean up and Christmas Fair at the First Congregational Church of Christ. In June, he will also be taking part in the National Youth Leadership Forum: Engineering and Technology in Boston at Franklin W Olin College. And later this summer, Joe will attend the two week long Boy Scout high-adventure camp at Philmont in New Mexico.

As Mrs. Iverson states, Joe is a well-rounded student who always puts others before himself and expects nothing in return.
