Katherine Thuma wins National FIT4MOM Instructor of the Year Award.

Katherine Thuma of Old Lyme, CT wins National FIT4MOM Instructor of the Year Award.

Katherine Thuma of Old Lyme, CT was awarded the top honor of “Instructor of the Year” at the Ignite 2014 National Fit4Mom Conference on April 25th , 2014 in San Diego, California. Thuma is the owner and lead instructor for the FIT4MOM of Southeastern CT territory. She has been a FIT4MOM Nationally certified instructor for over 4 years and has owned the Southeastern CT Franchise for almost two. This was her first time as a finalist for this award.

Katherine’s team of instructors and dedicated member nominated her for the Instructor of the Year Award.  Members sited not only her knowledge of fitness, and great workouts; but also her ability to motivate, support and inspire her members.  FIT4MOM of Southeastern CT works to not only support its members, but also supports many local charities and organizations.  Summer 'Food Drives' for the Shoreline Soup Kitchen & Panty, holiday 'Adopt a Family' gift drives with the Safe Futures Organization and the annual March of Dimes walk are just a few of the community support events they support. "Katherine’s highly credible instruction and delivery won her this prestigious award. She teaches profoundly effective fitness classes for moms in any stage of motherhood, and connects with each member on a much deeper personal level, as well. She believes in and acts from a transformational place." says Farel Hruska the FIT4MOM National Fitness Director.  "The moms who have taken classes from Katherine have not only seen incredible fitness changes, they have also been inspired and motivated to live differently. These changes have affected everyone around them, most importantly, their children. Katherine has been the catalyst for change for so many women, and households, in her community!"

FIT4MOM is the Nation’s largest fitness program designed especially for moms, with over 250 franchises nationwide and approximately 900 instructors. FIT4MOM is most well known for its Stroller Strides classes, which allow moms to get a great total body workout with their stroller-aged kids in tow. The kids remain in the strollers during the entire class, but participate with songs, puppets, bubbles and other activities that make sure they are having a wonderful time too! The Fit4Mom programs also include Fit4Baby prenatal workouts and Body Back, which is a high-intensity 8-week results-based program for moms who want to see big changes. In addition to all these workout choices, FIT4MOM of Southeastern CT also offers free weekly playgroup events and monthly Mom’s Night Out events. “We believe in the importance of fitness and modeling a healthy lifestyle for our children,” says Katherine, “and just as importantly, we believe in creating a ‘village’ of friendship, support and community. We want to help moms build the strength for motherhood.”

Thuma lives in Old Lyme with her husband Benjamin and their three daughters Margaret(5), Charlotte(4) and Audrey(1). An avid athlete, Katherine has competed in multiple Marathons and other road races and in addition to her FIT4MOM Prenatal & Postnatal Fitness Certification she is also a Certified Kettlebell Instructor.     Katherine first became involved in FIT4MOM when her oldest daughter, Margaret was a year old.  After the birth of her second child less than a year later she became an instructor.
