Police Impostor Phone Scam Warning In Clinton
Police are warning residents of a scam in which a man is impersonating a police officer and the department's phone number shows on caller ID

CLINTON, CT — Clinton Police are warning residents of a phone scam in which someone is impersonating a Clinton Police officer and is attempting to force people to pay him to “get out” of an arrest warrant.

“We have received a complaint of someone impersonating a Clinton Police Officer over the phone. This individual is ‘spoofing’ the Police Department's number through an internet site which makes the incoming call show on your caller ID as the Clinton Police Department's main number. The caller has a heavy middle eastern accent and is attempting to force people to pay him to ‘get out’ of an arrest warrant.

“DO NOT provide any personal information to this person or pay him any money. The police department will only take money from you in person at the police department as appearance bond for court after arrest processing.”
The case is currently under investigation, according to police.
