Protecting Your Skin From The Sun

Skin care and beauty expert Jennie Fresa of Clinton shares advice on how to keep your skin healthy.

Jennie Fresa grew up in Branford and moved back to the shoreline after fourteen years of beauty, make-up and skin care work in New York City and Europe. Four years ago she opened her business, Jennie Fresa Beauty Library, located in a charming old house in Clinton. Jennie believes in “sharing the knowledge I have gained and in creating an experience that is unique” for each client. She is “here for all women, all ages” and offers these suggestions to protect your skin.

Safe Sunscreen

Lately, there has been a lot of controversy about how safe sunscreen is. At the same time, there is no doubt that too much sun will damage your skin. According to Jennie, it is best to use a product containing natural sunscreens, such as zinc oxide and titanium oxide. She recommends Aveeno’s new Natural Protection line.

When to Use Skin Protection

It is best to use sunscreen whenever you go outside, even when you are running errands. When Jennie established her business here, she realized that women in the area were looking for a healthier approach to beauty. She researched healthy choices for sustainable beauty and has developed her own natural, healthy products, using organic ingredients whenever possible. She has a multifunctional, tinted moisturizer in her beauty library that is a sunscreen but also contains minerals and antioxidants to protect your skin from free-radicals (pollution) in the air.

Tips

Put on your sunscreen 15 to 20 minutes before you go outside because it takes time to work. Also, reapply sunscreen every two hours to ensure continued protection. And, don’t forget to put some on your ears and toes! Check out Jennie’s blog here for more tips and fun information.

Oops ~ Sunburn! Now what?

Jennie recommends having an aloe vera plant at home to use as needed to sooth your skin. To use, remove and slice open a lower leaf and apply the sap-like gel to your sunburned skin. She also suggests using Palmers Cocoa Butter Formula after sun exposure. This product can be purchased at your local drugstore.
