Suspicious Package Prompts Heavy Police Presence In Old Saybrook
In another incident, the police department's facility temporarily closed Thursday night after receiving a message that threatened officers.

OLD SAYBROOK, CT — Employees have been evacuated and there is a heavy police presence on Main Street in Old Saybrook after a suspicious package was received at a building, according to multiple reports.
NBC Connecticut reports that the package has been removed from the building and was sent to the state forensic lab. The incident could be related to similar investigations involving white powder in other towns in the state, according to NBC Connecticut.
The FBI has taken over the investigation, according to the Hartford Courant.

The incident occurred the morning after the Old Saybrook Police Department facility was temporarily closed after the department received a “very detailed communication” that included “threatening the lives of our Police Officers,” the department wrote in a post on Facebook. There was no information on whether the incident was connected to Friday morning’s situation.
The suspect responsible for the threatening message was taken into federal custody, police said, and there were no injuries during the incident.

“We would like to thank our Law Enforcement Partners who served as members of HazMat and WMD Response Teams, including the FBI, State Police, and DEEP,” police said on Facebook. “Although our Police Facility was forced to close, and became a crime scene, there was no disruption or delay to any Emergency Communication and Law Enforcement services we are proud to provide every day.”
