This Father's Day Card Becomes a Mobile

It's the Perfect Keepsake for Dad

Father’s Day means so many different things to so many people. For me, it was a picnic when I was young. We would go off and play while mom and dad cooked our dinner.

Dad was always at the grill to tending the fire and making sure we had good eats. When we were done, Dad took us over to the stream to fish. My dad is an avid fly angler and has spent a good deal of time fishing all over the U.S.

Some of my best childhood memories include fishing at a local stream. I think almost every dad has attempted to take his child fishing at some point. This card helps keep that memory fresh in their mind.

You will need

3 paper plates

Glue

Crayons or markers

Start by putting a special message on the inside of one of the paper plates. We will call this one the message plate

Picture 2 - Message

Color the other two paper plates any way you chose. We will call these the colored plates. Cut one of the colored plates in half and cut one of the halves in half

Picture 3 - Cutting

Glue the completed colored plate to the message plate on one edge. Sandwich the tail fin (½ of a colored plate) between the glue. I like to use a clothespin or paper clip to hold this together until it dries.

The plates should hinge open like a card when dry.

Now glue the fins to the message plate along with a red heart for the fish lips. Allow the whole thing to dry. When you are done with the card and Fathers Day is over you can glue or attach a ribbon to the fish to hang in a window for the summer. It is the perfect keepsake for dad.

Grilling Fun!

Grilling can be a challenge these days with all the products on the market to make those bigger and better steaks. Really, you just need some things you probably already have around your spice cabinet.

These two rubs are great-tasting, and any child can stir up the ingredients. They store in your cabinet, they make great gifts, and best of all, they are easy to make!

Picture 5 - Ingredients

Meat Rub

½ cup dark brown sugar

¼ cup paprika

1 tablespoon pepper

1 tablespoon salt

1 tablespoon chili powder

1 tablespoon garlic powder

1 tablespoon onion powder

1 teaspoon celery seed

Picture 6 - Spices

Mix it all together and rub sparingly into chicken or pork.

Then grill. It adds a wonderful flavor and color to your meat.

COFFEE STEAK RUB

Picture 8 - Ingredients

Grind your favorite coffee beans until you have ½ cup of finely ground coffee.

3 tablespoons salt

5 tablespoons finely ground pepper

2 tablespoons basil

Picture 9 - Spices

Picture 10 - Finished rub

I put these into baby food containers and toss them the cupboard until I am ready to use them.

I love this spice mix rubbed into steak or ribs. Allow this one to sit for 2 or 3 hours on the meat to get the full impact of the flavor. Then just rub into your favorite meat and heat and serve.

I decorate baby food containers and place the rubs in them, with a nice label. They can be stored for months in the cupboard.
