Whole Foods To Open New Location In Old Saybrook: Report

More than 30,000-square-feet of space in the complex remains available to lease, including a 2,396-square-foot restaurant.

OLD SAYBROOK, CT — Whole Foods is expanding its footprint in Connecticut and has signed a lease for a 40,000-square-foot grocery store at 1654 Boston Post Road, according to a rendering on the Carpionato Group's website.

More than 30,000-square-feet of space in the complex remains available to lease, including a 2,396-square-foot restaurant, which was not named.

The Connecticut Examiner first reported the news that Whole Foods has signed a lease for the site. Carpionato Group owns the plaza. (Read the full Connecticut Examiner story here).

Old Saybrook First Selectman Carl Fortuna told the Connecticut Examiner that he's pleased that the former Benny's anchored plaza will be redeveloped.

On the flyer for the site, the Carpionato Group wrote, "Situated within the affluent Old Saybrook community, this site has nearby access to I-95, with strong average household incomes of $116,504."

Nearby existing businesses include: Citgo, Dunkin Donuts, Big Y, Five Guys, Ulta Beauty, Kohl’s, and West Marine.

Whole Foods has been making some changes in Connecticut in 2022. In June, South Windsor officials held a groundbreaking ceremony for a 50,000-square-foot Whole Foods store at the Promenade Shops at Evergreen Walk. An opening date for the South Windsor store has not yet been released.

In April, Whole Foods, confirmed it is coming to Stamford. A Whole Foods Market spokesperson confirmed to Patch that plans for a new Stamford store "are in development," but there are no details on a specific location or timeline for opening yet.

There are currently Whole Foods locations in Milford, Fairfield, West Hartford, Westport, Avon, Danbury, Glastonbury, Darien, and Greenwich.
