Chicago, IL – What if someone told you that an hour of spinning could help stop violence in Chicago – would you step up to the bike? Cyclists and spinning enthusiasts of all levels are invited to World Sport Chicago’s inaugural Spin to Break the Cycle. The benefit is a high-energy, indoor cycling event that challenges participants to get active for programs that have proven to make an impact on youth violence in Chicago. On March 8th, hundreds of Chicagoans including some surprise guest appearances of Chicago celebrities will jump on a bike for an entry-level workout with one goal- breaking the cycle of violence in Chicago.
Spin instructors from some of the top clubs in the city will lead 8 hours of energetic spin workouts and provide 75 spin bikes to fill the House of Blues concert hall for the inaugural event. Bike wheels will not be the only things spinning…a live dj will be playing high-energy playlists.
Individuals and teams are invited to take the challenge to pedal their way to raise funds for the important work of World Sport Chicago in increments of either 1,2 or 3 hours! World Sport Chicago will provide riders easy fundraising online toolkit to help raise pledges. To add to the excitement, there will be fundraising drawings every week for pledges turned in by March 31st for prizes such as tickets to the Chicago Bears Official Draft Party with LIVE analysis from Bears football experts and appearances by current players or pre-game on-field passes with the Chicago Fire.

According to Scott Myers, Executive Director of World Sport Chicago, every dollar raised through the event will go directly to our programs that are having a tangible impact in reducing violence in Chicago. For example, a research study by the University of Chicago–Crime Lab proved that participation in Becoming a Man – Sports Edition (BAM – Sports), a World Sport Chicago and Youth Guidance program, reduces violent crime arrests, weapons crime and increases school achievement. These results include: reduced violent crime arrests by 44%, reduced weapons crime and vandalism by 36%, increased future graduation rates by 10-23%.
