Any adult who has helped a learner—formally or informally—has access to two useful voices: a “Teacher Voice” that provides instruction, information, and sometimes step-by-step directions, and an “Executive Function Coach Voice” that invites thinking, problem-solving, and ownership.

Both are important. The key is knowing which voice the learner needs in the moment — when to step in with direction and when to step back and make room for thinking.

Join Forman School's Cognition and Learning Teacher and Executive Function Coach Robyn Greenspan, Cognition and Learning Head of Department Brittany Bloom-Price, and Director of Cognition and Learning Dr. Kristin Simmers as they share research-informed strategies that work for learners of all ages, with a focus on:

A clear, plain-language understanding of executive function coaching

How to recognize when to use Teacher Voice and EF Coach Voice

Specific language shifts that encourage thinking, problem-solving, and ownership

Practical strategies that can be used at home and at school

Spend an afternoon in the stunning fields of The Fen in Sharon, Connecticut, with botanist and seed specialist Heather Liljengren for a hands-on master class in native seed collection. Set within expansive, species-rich meadows on a calcareous fen, The Fen is a native seed farm and regenerative land project seldom open to the public. This off-site field day offers a rare opportunity to learn directly from a field botanist in a working landscape shaped by seasonal rhythms, native plant communities, and careful stewardship. Guided by Heather’s deep knowledge of plants and seed ecology, participants will learn how to recognize seed maturity, collect seed responsibly, and clean and prepare native seed for successful planting. Each participant will leave with native ecotype seed they have collected themselves, ready to plant in their own garden.

NOTE: This is an off-site program. Participants will meet at the Fen in Sharon, CT. Address provided with your registration.
