DANBURY, CT — Danbury’s proposed 2026-27 budget passed Tuesday night after city officials lowered the anticipated tax increase ahead of the final vote.
The City Council approved the budget in a 19-1 vote after Mayor Roberto Alves recommended reducing the proposed mill rate from 25.37 to 25.23 mills following an additional $1.4 million in state education aid, according to city officials.
The amended budget represents a 0.96 percent mill rate increase.
The approved budget totals about $349 million, up from roughly $328.9 million in the current fiscal year budget, according to city budget documents.
“This budget passed because of the strong advocacy of our administration and state delegation,” Alves said in a statement. “It’s responsible, forward-looking, and keeps money in the pockets of our taxpayers.”
City officials said the budget includes investments tied to police staffing, Danbury Public Schools, roads and infrastructure improvements and continued progress toward the planned West Side fire station.
