GE Capital Hosts Unique Canned Food Sculpture Contest

GE Capital employees in Danbury have collected 6,083 cans of food – almost tripling last year’s total – as part of a national GE Capital canned food drive and sculpture contest. The food from the event was donated to Connecticut Food Bank, a non-profit organization that is one of the largest sources of donated, emergency food in the state.

To maximize excitement for the campaign and increase the number of cans donated, teams of employees built sculptures made entirely of donated food items. Eleven sculptures made up of the approximately 6,083 cans and other non-perishable food items were created – including a giant apple to signify GE’s Healthymagination program and a tree representing the company’s focus on growth.

“We are so pleased to be a part of this event and to accept such a generous donation from GE Capital,” said Nancy L. Carrington, Connecticut Food Bank president and CEO. “The energy and dedication they put toward supporting the needs of our community is impressive and will go a long way in our mission to alleviate hunger in Connecticut.”
