Arson Suspected in Barn Fire

Danbury Police are following up on a fire that occurred Tuesday night into Wednesday morning on King Street.

One reason arson is suspected in Tuesday night's barn fire at 65-67 King St., is a neighbor heard what sounded like someone banging on metal. When he looked outside he saw lights and a car driving away from the area of the barn.

When he got outside to investigate he found the side of a barn on fire.

Firefighters then found fireworks near the fire, which combined with the witness testimony, led to the conclusion someone tried to start the fire and they used fireworks to do it, said Danbury Assistant Fire Marshal Bill Weber.

"It is arson," Weber said. He said that as of roughly 3 p.m., Danbury didn't have  a suspect, but he said a few minutes after the Danbury fire was reported Tuesday night into Wednesday morning, a fire was reported across the state line on Mill Town Road in Southeast.

Weber said he has no way of knowing either way, but it is possible to reach Mill Town Road from King Street quickly. Maybe the fires are related, Weber said.

The Danbury Fire Marshal’s office and the Danbury Police Department’s detective division are investigating the fire.

The late-night fire damaged one wall of an old dairy barn.
