Birthing Centers to Consolidate at Danbury Hospital

The Danbury News-Times reported that Western Connecticut Health Network, which operates both hospitals, announced the consolidation at news conference Thursday. Network officials said the declining birth rate in the New Milford area meant it could no longer afford to keep the New Milford Birthing Center open.
Officials said there were 343 births in New Milford in 2009. The number dropped to 263 last year, and the rate so far in 2012 shows the trend would continue.
