Candlewood Lake Authority To Offer Boating Course, Accreditation

A boater must possess a Certificate of Personal Watercraft Operation to operate legally on CT waters. Here's how you can get one.

NEW FAIRFIELD, CT — The Candlewood Lake Authority Marine Patrol will be offering a combination Safe Boating / Personal Watercraft course.

To legally operate a boat with an engine or motor, all residents of Connecticut and anyone using Connecticut waters for more than 60 days must have a Safe Boating Certificate. In addition, to legally operate a personal watercraft, regardless of state residency, a boater must possess a Certificate of Personal Watercraft Operation to operate on Connecticut waters.

Successful completion of this course, offered by Instructors from the Candlewood Lake Authority Marine Patrol, will qualify a person for the combination Safe Boating / Personal Watercraft Certificate.

The 2-day course will be held March 6 from 5-9 p.m., and March 7 from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., at the Sail Harbour Club Clubhouse, 25 Sail Harbour Drive in New Fairfield. Registration is available through the Candlewood Lake Authority's online registration and payment process. The cost for the course is $25 per person. Registration will close on March 1, or when capacity is reached. Space is limited to 40 participants.

The Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection requires that in order to receive your license, all course registrants must bring their Connecticut Conservation ID Number with them to the class. If you presently have a Connecticut fishing or hunting license, then your conservation ID number is on your license. Bring that with you to the first class. If you do not have a Connecticut fishing or hunting license, you must create an account to receive one.
