Housatonic Habitat for Humanity's Leadership Advisory Council meeting

Carolyn Sistrunk, Executive Director of Danbury’s Public Housing Authority (HACD), and Doug Hensel, Housatonic Habitat for Humanity’s Board President and Vice President of Retail Banking at Newtown Savings Bank, were speakers at Habitat’s Leadership Advisory Council which met recently at Bio Restaurant, 7 Backus Avenue. The Advisory Leadership Council brings together community leaders who share Housatonic Habitat’s affordable housing mission.
Sistrunk shared with the leadership Advisory members that HACD is one of the 10 largest public housing agencies in Connecticut. Its combined state/federal public housing and choice voucher programs consist of 1840 affordable family and senior rental units in five developments and private apartments throughout Danbury and the region. As such, both the HACD and Housatonic Habitat seek to provide safe affordable housing for residents in the region. “We are very fortunate to have partners like the HACD,” said Hensal, “and we are excited with the prospect of deepening our ties to provide a seamless transition from rental assistance to home ownership.”
Housatonic Habitat is the local affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International which has serviced western Connecticut since 1991. Habitat makes affordable homes for local families, runs a ReStore which is a home improvement warehouse and provides affordable home repair services through its Brush with Kindness Program.
