City Councilman Alves Announces Campaign For Mayor Of Danbury
Democratic City Councilman At-Large Roberto Alves announced his candidacy for Mayor on Thursday.

DANBURY, CT — Democratic City Councilman At-Large Roberto Alves announced his candidacy for Mayor on Thursday.
Alves is the first candidate from any party to officially announce that he will seek the office. The city's current chief executive is Republican Joe Cavo, the former president of the City Council who took the seat vacated by 10-term mayor Mark Boughton last month, as dictated by the city Charter.
"Like many communities, Danbury is at a turning point. We face important challenges that will affect the future of our small businesses, our kids and families, our neighbors,” Alves said in the statement announcing his candidacy. "We're in the midst of a crisis. With massive job loss, a looming housing crisis, small businesses closing, and our healthcare system is once again on the verge of being overwhelmed. Too many Danbury families have suffered because leaders at all levels — from Washington down to the City-level — have failed us. We need a leader who can take on our most critical challenges and I’m ready to build Danbury back better, to be more equitable for all."

Alves was educated in the Danbury Public Schools and is employed as a technical sales engineer with Cartus.
In October, while running for his current position, Alves told Patch that "the single most pressing issue facing our town is the uncontrolled growth, with no plan. This has led to the challenges that our schools and infrastructure face. This city can no longer afford to kick the can down the road, and we need an administration that is ready to face these challenges head on."
