Construction of New Danbury Community Health Center Begins

The new health center will serve all people regardless of income or insurance.

Officials formally marked the start of construction of the new Greater Danbury Community Health Center Building on Wednesday afternoon.

Danbury Mayor Mark Boughton was joined by Gov. Dannel Malloy and other officials at the groundbreaking ceremony. The new building is being built at 120 Main Street in downtown Danbury, diagonally across the street from St. Peter Church.

When completed, the new building is expected to bring 60 new jobs to downtown Danbury, with a total annual payroll of approximately $6,000,000. The new building was designed by Quicquaro Architects of Waterbury and Quisenberry-Arcari Architects of Farmington. Bethel-based Verdi Construction Company will construct the building.

The building was financed through both public and private funding. The State of Connecticut provided a $4,000,000 grant, private commercial mortgage financing was provided by Eastern Bank of Boston in participation with Union Savings Bank of Danbury totaling around $6,000,000. Private investments totaling approximately $5,000,000 were provided through the Federal New Market Tax Credit (NMTC) through three NMTC investors.

  • Pediatric and Adolescent Medical and Behavioral Health services;
  • Comprehensive Women’s Health Services (OB/GYN and wellness);
  • Patient intake, enrollment and insurance assistance;
  • An on-site Phlebotomy (blood sample) suite;
  • A full-service Pharmacy;
  • Administrative offices for the Health Center; and
  • Headquarters offices for the Institute
