Coronavirus: Danbury And New Fairfield Hibernians Cancel Events

DANBURY, CT — The Danbury and New Fairfield Hibernians have canceled all St. Patrick's Day activities, in compliance with the wishes of state and local officials hoping to slow the spread of the new coronavirus.

The cancelled events include:

March 14: New Fairfield Flag raising, parade and Mass at St. Edward's

March 14: Heritage Day at the Greater Danbury Irish Cultural Center

March 17: Danbury flag raising

March 22: Danbury St. Patrick's Day parade (postponed to a later date, to be determined)

Officials from the Hibernians said: "We are very sad to have to cancel the parade as well as all St. Patrick's Day activities at our club and in Danbury and New Fairfield. We are following Mayor Mark's recommendation to cancel all activities with crowds of over 100 or more in order to help prevent the spread of the coronavirus. We are very sorry for the disappointing news but the safety and well-being of our members and guests is our utmost concern. We will post an update on our Facebook page when a new date for the parade has been set."
