Coronavirus: WCSU In Danbury Investigating Reports Of Parties
WCSU opened its doors to residents this past weekend after a spike in COVID-19 cases in the city forced a delay in opening.
DANBURY — Western Connecticut State University is investigating reports of off-campus parties held over the weekend.
"We have not officially confirmed them yet," University spokesman Paul Steinmetz said.
WCSU opened its doors to residents this past weekend, after a spike in positive coronavirus cases caused the state Department of Public Health to issue a COVID-19 advisory one month ago. That advisory prompted the university to delay reopening its doors to residents.

"We spent a lot of time before we brought students back on campus communicating with them about the importance of wearing masks, social distancing, and not gathering in large crowds," Steinmetz said in an email to Patch.
Monday, Mayor Mark Boughton reported 11 new confirmed case of COVID-19 in the city, where the infection level has hovered around 5-6 percent.

Steinmetz said the university sent another letter via email to students on Monday, reminding them again that "anyone who disregards those guidelines will be warned, and then brought before our Judicial Affairs office, which can impose disciplinary measures."
On Saturday, the University of Connecticut placed residents of one dormitory under quarantine after four recent positive coronavirus tests. All four positive cases have occurred over last week.
There were no confirmed positive cases of coronavirus at WCSU.
