Danbury Man Arrested On Felony Gun Charge After NY Traffic Stop: Sheriff

DANBURY, CT — A Danbury man was arrested on a felony gun charge after deputies found a loaded handgun during a traffic stop in Putnam County, New York, authorities said.

Aaron Freeze, 30, of Danbury, was arrested following an Aug. 12 traffic stop in the Putnam Lake area of Patterson, according to the Putnam County Sheriff's Office.

Deputy Nick Trupia spotted a vehicle around 7:06 p.m. with an expired registration and an obstructed license plate, authorities said. During the stop, deputies determined the vehicle's registration was expired and that it did not have valid insurance.

Freeze then told deputies there was a handgun inside the vehicle, according to the sheriff's office.

Deputies said they recovered a loaded Smith & Wesson handgun from the passenger-side floor area. Freeze did not have a New York State pistol permit or any other valid pistol permit, authorities said.

Freeze was taken into custody and transported to the Putnam County Correctional Facility for processing.

He was charged with criminal possession of a firearm, a Class E felony, and issued an appearance ticket directing him to appear in Patterson Justice Court at a later date, according to authorities.
