CT Plumbing, LLC Offers Safety Tips During COVID-19 Pandemic
David LaCava, owner of CT Plumbing, offers tips on keeping your Danbury family safe during home improvement and emergency plumbing projects.

DANBURY, CT —People are using their homes more now than ever during the unprecedented lockdown due to the novel Coronavirus outbreak and one local plumber is offering some safety tips to ensure you and you family stay safe and healthy.
New Fairfield resident and business owner David LaCava, of Connecticut Plumbing, LLC, said that he is getting more calls on the residential side of his business now and less on the commercial side as many construction projects have stopped until "Stay at Home" orders are lifted.
"I'm getting a lot more emergency calls for no water, clogged sinks and toilets and other common issues now because so many people are working from home," LaCava said, continuing, "People are nervous having someone come into their house but I reassure them that I come in full PPE, which includes safety gloves, masks and goggles and use disinfecting products to make sure that I am keeping my customers and their families safe."

LaCava said in order to keep his clients safe, he is adhering to the PHCP's (Professional Plumbing, Heating, Cooling & Piping Community) recommended guidelines which state:
"Plumbers are advised to increase the frequency of hand washing and wash for at least 20 seconds with soap and water (even longer hand washing time is good practice after contact with wastewater); avoid touching of the face; cover any open cuts or wounds and wear proper PPE. Avoid sharing of tools with coworkers to the greatest extent possible. When choosing cleaning chemicals, look for cleaning agents with claims against viral pathogens. If such cleaning agents are not available, use soap and water and dry tools thoroughly after use. Keep your PPE clean as well by following manufacturer instructions carefully.

Another change LaCava is seeing due to the outbreak is more and more of his customers are tempted to dive into DIY (do-it-yourself) projects. He has been getting a calls from people seeking advice on how to "do it yourself" for home remodeling or improvement, or from customers who have attempted to do a home improvement project themselves and then ran into issues. Many believe they can save money by doing their own home projects but unlike other DIY projects, mistakes are not cheap and can be dangerous.
"The best advice I can give is don't do it yourself. I'm a licensed and trained professional in plumbing and HVAC and there are some very dangerous situations a homeowner can get themselves into like possibly tapping into a gas line," LaCava said.
"All that money saved by the DIY homeowner will disappear once the other costs are factored in," LaCava said. "Many times a homeowner will attempt a home improvement project and then call me after they run into problems to complete the job, which can be costly," he continued, "so the best advice I can give them is to call a professional first."
LaCava, who operates out of his New Fairfield, CT shop, has been in the industry for more than 30 years, is fully licensed in CT and NY, and has a AAA rating with the Better Business Bureau.
