Curing Cancer One Step at a time!

This Saturday, June 2nd from 2 - 11 Come help us defeat cancer at Relay for Life of New Fairfield!

Relay for Life of New Fairfield: Curing Cancer one Step at a time!

This Saturday, June 2nd, evildoers beware! New Fairfield High School’s track will be taken over by Cancer fighting Superheroes. It will be transformed from a track and field to a celebration of life, mission and an end to our nemesis; CANCER.

We will be starting off our event with our beautiful Survivor and Caregiver Luncheon up in the High School Cafeteria (all survivors and caregivers are welcome to attend). The reason we Relay is because of you. You’ve been through so much and battled so hard, we want you to have a stress free, delicious lunch with gifts, friends and lots of love.

Before we go on to our schedule of events I want to point out something else Relay for Life is, besides our fun filled fundraising celebration!

Did you know that thanks to work from the American Cancer Society studies show the correlation between cancer and things like tobacco, UV rays and certain chemicals in our products? Thanks to donations and events like ours research is constantly evolving and finding cures and causes. Since today is No Tobacco day, one relevant study is the link between smoking and lung cancer. To “solve” this problem companies came out with E-Cigarettes or Vapes. A question still remains; are they actually safer? According to cancer.org, “Completely switching to e-cigarettes reduces the exposure to many toxins and cancer-causing substances in regular cigarettes. However, many adults who use e-cigarettes also continue to use other tobacco products, too. In the short term, completely switching to e-cigarettes can lower the harmful effects to the body caused by smoking. Long-term effects are not yet clear because e-cigarettes are relatively new. They have only been on the market since 2006.”

It is because of communities and volunteers that research like this can be funded. We will know first hand how dangerous they are and if they truly do help or harm.

THIS IS WHY WE FIGHT!

We fight so one day we can be free from cancer! This year, our event will be open to the public from 2pm to 11pm with our opening ceremony beginning at 3 pm. We have games, food, prizes and meaningful ceremonies honoring, celebrating and remembering our loved ones. Split Decision, The Koslowski kids, Paralyzed Love, The Chamber Singers and the Rebel Clefs will be performing. Our very own Carson Barry will be singing the national anthem and, as always we will have the dunk tank, Luminaria’s, Caregiver Garden Pinwheels, and 40+ teams all with unique fundraisers.

Below is a schedule of our events so you can help us honor and remember our survivors and caregivers all while having fun.We hope to see you Saturday because as a community united, cancer does not stand a chance!
