Eighty percent of the nearly $1 million project is being funded by the state. The new rooms are designed to alleviate some of the stress accompanying a robust influx of middle school students. The new rooms will increase the school's capacity from its current 600 to about 750 over the next three years. About 50 students will begin occupying the new space as early as October.

School officials will game the lottery that seeds the school to more evenly distribute incoming students. The student populations of the already filled-to-capacity Broadview and Park Ridge schools will drop to 975 each as the new space at Westside becomes utilized.
