Danbury Artist Exhibits at 'The Gallery' in City Hall

DANBURY, CT — An exhibition from local photographer William Frucht opened at “The Gallery” on the third floor of City Hall on March 4.

The show, “Ordinary Streets,” will run through April 25. A reception will be held Thursday, March 14 from 5-6:30 p.m

Frucht shared his thought process behind “Ordinary Streets:”

“The nine photographs on display are part of a long-term project of photographing the entire state of Connecticut. This sounds ambitious, but on the other hand, it is one of our smaller states. I hope to avoid some of the commoner clichés of landscape photography. The world has enough sunsets behind lighthouses and weathered, snow-covered barns. It also has enough pictures of spectacular suburban ugliness taken as acts of protest against the dehumanization of the built environment.”

“Instead I want to show things that we pass by every day and don’t see because they’re too mundane to notice. I’m fascinated by photographs of streets from forty, fifty or more years ago showing scenes that were completely ordinary at the time but are now interesting because we never see things like that anymore. Ordinary Streets is an effort to replicate, or maybe anticipate, that experience. I think of these as candid portraits: images taken when the subject doesn’t know it’s being photographed.”

“Ordinary Streets” is exhibited in partnership with the Cultural Alliance of Western Connecticut's Accessible Art program, which makes the work of regional visual artists accessible to new audiences by partnering with are venues who share in the creative and economic values of working together.
