Danbury Board Of Ed Member Announces Run For State Senate

DANBURY, CT — Michelle Coelho has announced her intention to run for the 24th District State Senate seat, representing Danbury, Bethel, New Fairfield and Sherman.

Coelho, a Republican, is a construction project design manager, and currently serving on the Danbury Board of Education. She would challenge two-term Democrat State Sen. Julie Kushner.

Coelho, a Republican, made the announcement Friday at the Portuguese Cultural Center, and spoke of her mission to "safeguard our children's education." She described herself as a champion of education reform, which included bringing a public charter school in the city.

"We must always remember to give a voice and a choice to the parents in the education of their children," Coelho said.
