Danbury Clerk-Elect to Continue As State Representative

Janice Giegler said she will serve the 138th District until her term ends next year.

The newly elected Danbury town clerk will likely be taking some time off during her tenure because she has a part-time job.

Republican Janice Giegler will assume her new gig in January when she becomes the town full-time clerk, the Danbury News Times reported.

However, she intends to continue serving as the state representative for the 138th District through the end of 2016.

Giegler said she checked with state officials about possible conflicts when holding two elected positions, the News Times said, and she found examples of other elected individuals in the same situation, such as Democratic state Sen. Cathy Osten, who also serves as the first selectman of Sprague.

Democratic Party leader Joe Walkovich is not so sanguine about Giegler’s decision to do both jobs.
