Danbury Couple Arrested On Child Abuse Charges In Norwalk: Police
The couple is accused of beating a child using a belt and phone cord wire.

NORWALK, CT — A Danbury couple was arrested on child abuse charges in Norwalk following an investigation by the state Department of Children and Families, according to Norwalk police.
In mid-January, Norwalk police Special Victims Unit received a complaint from DCF about a child abuse situation.
A police investigation was launched and during interviews, detectives "learned that the child had been struck with a belt on multiple occasions by the victim’s mother and her boyfriend.

"It was also reported that the child had been struck with a phone cord wire and was made to hold books over their head until it hurt as a form of punishment," police said.
Detectives did not disclose where the abuse is believed to have occurred.

Police obtained arrest warrants, and on Wednesday authorities took Jose Valenzuela and Liseth Castillo-Cruz into custody at separate locations in Danbury. The two were transported back to the Norwalk Police Department where they were charged.
Valenzuela, 35, of Edgewater Circle in Danbury, was charged with risk of injury to a minor, cruelty to persons and third-degree assault. He was released after posting bond on bail of $100,000, and is scheduled to appear in Norwalk Superior Court on March 6.
Castillo-Cruz, 31, of Federal Road in Danbury, was charged with risk of injury to a minor and cruelty to persons. She was released after posting bond on bail of $75,000, and also is scheduled to appear in Norwalk Superior Court on March 6.
