Danbury DMV Becomes Hub Service Center

The state Department of Motor Vehicles has increased the number of services available at the Danbury office of the DMV.

The state Department of Motor Vehicles announced today that its Danbury office will become part of the regional service network offering licensing testing and a variety of other customer services. Danbury will provide a full-range of assistance with driver license testing and other license services as well as all license knowledge exams, road testing to obtain a driver’s license and related matters to issuing license endorsements and commercial driver’s licenses. Danbury's office is located at 2 Lee Mac Ave. The additional services now available in Danbury are:

  • All Knowledge Testing
  • Road tests (non-commercial driver license road tests only)
  • Out-of-state driver's license transfers
  • New non-driver identification cards for non-U.S. citizens
  • Vehicle identification number verifications
  • Eye tests
  • New commercial driver's licenses
  • Adding an endorsement to a driver's license or commercial driver’s license
  • Acceptance of application packets for public passenger endorsements  

Walk-in knowledge testing hours are:
- Tuesday - 7:45 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
- Wednesday - 7:45 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
- Thursday - 9:15 a.m. to 4 p.m.
- Friday - 7:45 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
- Saturday - 8 a.m. to 11 a.m.

“We are very pleased to be expanding our customer services in these regions and be able to broaden our hub system to include them,” said DMV Commissioner Melody A. Currey said.  “These new hub offices, as with our other hubs, have a demand for the various testing services we will provide.”

Danbury is being added to serve Western Connecticut so that customers do not have to drive to Waterbury or Bridgeport.   In August, the agency regionalized certain services to four hub offices – Bridgeport, Waterbury, Wethersfield and Willimantic. The addition of Danbury and Hamden is part of the original plan for this hub network.

  DMV would also like to remind customers that driver’s license and ID card renewals – both verified and regular – may be processed at 15 AAA offices across Connecticut.    AAA offices:
