Danbury Education Foundation Awards Teachers with $11,000 in Education Grants
Danbury Education Foundation is awarding the 'Classroom Excellence Grants' at Wednesday evening's Board of Ed meeting.

DANBURY, CT- The Danbury Education Foundation (DEF) is awarding this year’s Classroom Excellence Grants at the Danbury Public School’s Board of Education meeting Wednesday, February 24, at 7 p.m. at 63 Beaver Brook Road, according to a news release.
Classroom Excellence Grants are awarded to applicants who apply for funding for projects or programs that are unable to be covered by the regular school budget. All teachers are given the opportunity to apply for a DEF Classroom Excellence Grant. Applicants are required to submit detailed project ideas to be considered for the grants. Twenty-five applications came in from various schools and for a variety of projects.

Mayor Mark Boughton said, “The number and variety of applications we received shows us that our teachers are enthusiastic about diversifying the programs they provide their students. The Danbury Education Foundation is proud to assist our outstanding teachers through the funding of these innovative education projects.”
The winners of the grants are:
- Jamie Pandolfi & Meghan Viola - $1,500 for Teaching Life, Liberty & the Pursuit of Happiness at Stadley Rough & Hayestown Avenue School
- Christine Miller & Jenny Casey - $1,500 for Broadview United Leadership at Broadview Middle School
- Phyllis Cohen, Marci Kaminski & Keshia Smith - $1,500 for Site Based Science: Sustainable Gardening at Great Plain Elementary School
- Brian Ho - $1,500 for All-City Orchestra at Danbury Public Middle Schools
- Devin Nejame Sullivan - $1,500 for Making Math Fun through Sports at Morris Street School
- Ashley Grenier & Stephen Furman - $3,500 for Interactive Whiteboard at Hayestown Avenue School
- DHS Hockey Booster & Blueliner Clubs Danbury High School
- In 2015, the DEF provided an additional $7,500 to public school programs.
The mission of the Danbury Education Foundation (DEF) is to complement and enhance the educational opportunities of all students within Danbury Public Schools. The foundation affords teachers the capacity to implement creative and enriching educational experiences for their students. The Danbury Education Foundation supports innovative programs, partnerships and collaborations to improve the quality of education for all children in Danbury Public Schools. Mark Boughton founded the Danbury Education Foundation in 2005.
