Danbury Major Crime Stats Drop Over 18 Percent

The report was prepared by the Police Department and remains unofficial until an audit by the state.

DANBURY, CT — Major crime is down over 18 percent in September, according to the latest figures from the Danbury Police Department.

There were a total of 719 major crimes from January through September 2019, down from 870 for the same period in 2018. That's a 17 percent drop when comparing both nine month periods, and 18.5 percent comparing just the months of September from both years.

"I applaud Chief Ridenhour for managing a department that focuses on community policing. Our officers are engaging with the public and continuing to protect the safety of all of our residents," said Mayor Boughton in a news release. "I am proud to represent the safest major city in Connecticut."

Boughton has made Danbury's rank as the overall safest large city in the state a recurring theme in his stump speeches in the run-up to the mayoral election on Nov. 5.
