Danbury Man Hands His Child To Bystander Before Fleeing Crash: PD

Police say they found the dad intoxicated in a bathroom of a nearby business.

DANBURY, CT — Police arrested a city man they say fled from the scene of an accident, after leaving his 5-year-old child with a bystander.

Celso Leonardo Remache-chunir appeared to have rear-ended a car stopped for a traffic light on Division Street at West Street on Monday evening, according to Detective Lt. Mark Williams.

"After colliding with the other car, Celso exited his car with the child, handed the child to a bystander and fled the area before the police arrived," Williams said.

When the police arrived, they noticed fresh blood in Remache-chunir's car and open containers of alcoholic type beverages, but no child car seat, according to the police report. Officers found Remache-chunir hiding in a bathroom of a nearby business, where he "appeared intoxicated," according to Williams. He refused to submit to a breathalyzer test.

Remache-chunir was charged with DUI, risk of injury to a child, and reckless endangerment
