Danbury Man Tries to Shoplift from Big Y, Charged with DUI in Naugatuck: Police

Naugatuck police say the Danbury man initially refused to stop his vehicle for police officers.

NAUGATUCK, CT — A Danbury man is accused of attempting to shoplift at Big Y in Naugatuck, leaving the store and driving while under the influence of a narcotic, police said.

Police said at 5:07 p.m. on Oct. 20 officers responded to Big Y for a larceny complaint.

Shawn P. Gartland, 41, of Middle River in Danbury, is accused of leaving the store before the officer arrived, police said.

Gartland was found on Spring Street and allegedly refused to stop his vehicle and he continued driving onto North Spring Street, police said.

Police say they found him in possession of drug paraphernalia and that he was also driving under the influence of a narcotic.

Gartland is charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, criminal attempt to commit sixth-degree larceny and DUI.
