DANBURY, CT — Mayor Mark Boughton pardoned the life of a turkey, one week before Thanksgiving.

The lucky bird, "Dot," was given the good news at an event at Stew Leonard's. The grocer donated nearly 1,800 turkeys to families in need, Boughton posted on Twitter.

Dot will "live out her days free of fear" in Meriden, Boughton posted.
