Danbury PD Cracks Down on Texting While Driving
The Danbury Police Department's crackdown on distracted driving is part of a national 'U Drive. U Text. U Pay' campaign.
DANBURY, CT — The police have announced they will be conducting a texting enforcement campaign during the first two weeks of August.
"Law enforcement officers will be out in full force August 1 to August 15, 2019 for the campaign, which is a national high-visibility effort to enforce distracted-driving laws,' the police posted on social media.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, nearly 20,000 people died n crashes involving a distracted driver between 2012 and 2017. Over the past six years, ten percent of all fatal crashes involved a distracted driver.

Fines in Connecticut for violations begin at $150 for a first offense, increase to $300 for a second offense, and are $500 for subsequent violations.
