Danbury PD in Armed Standoff, Shut Down Roads

Police were responding to a report of a person threatening to shoot themselves

DANBURY, CT — Police closed down the area around Park Avenue and Wooster on Friday morning after receiving a call regarding a possibly suicidal person at a residence in the neighborhood.

Police got the call at 8:00 a.m. about a person purported to have a rifle who threatened to shoot themselves. Officers responded to the residence on Park Avenue near the intersection with West Wooster Street, but were unable to make contact with the person, police reported.

Officers secured the area and evacuated residents from nearby homes with the assistance of a bus provided by the HART Transit Authority. Police shut down the roads at Park Ave and West Wooster Street, Park Avenue and Greenfield Avenue, West Wooster Street and Wooster Heights Road, Delta Avenue and Connecticut Avenue.

The Danbury PD's Emergency Services Unit SWAT team responded to the scene with tactical officers and crisis negotiators. The tactical officers entered the residence and found the person inside, and uninjured. The person was transported to the hospital for an evaluation.

The standoff was resolved without incident at 11:30 a.m., according to the police report.
