Danbury Police Department Organizing Citizen Police Academy

The program is designed to "heighten the awareness of the public and police in an effort to develop a working partnership between the two."

DANBURY, CT -- The Danbury Police Department is currently in the process of organizing the 28th session of its Citizen Police Academy. This is an 11 week program available to the residents of the City of Danbury, business owners in the City of Danbury as well as persons who work within the City. The course is intended to give individuals the opportunity to learn more about the operations of the police department and police procedures.

The program is not intended to make citizens into police officers but rather to "heighten the awareness of both the public and police in an effort to develop a working partnership between the two," the department said in a release.

The Citizen Police Academy requires a commitment of one night per week for eleven weeks. The sessions will begin on Tuesday evening September 11, from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. and continue every Tuesday evening thereafter until November 20. In addition to a tour of the facility, program will cover topics such as Laws of Arrest, Penal Code, Patrol Procedures, Crime Scene Investigation, Defensive Tactics, as well as an informative session on the weapons that are currently in use by the department.
