Man Wielding Two Knives Shot by Danbury Police

The knife-wielding man refused all orders to stop and drop the weapons, according to police.

DANBURY, CT — A Danbury police officer shot a man armed with two large knives on Wednesday morning.

According to "preliminary information" provided by the Danbury PD, police responded to a report of an assault at 38 Old Ridgebury Road at 8:44 Wednesday morning. When officers arrived on the scene, they found a white male, in his thirties, in a recreational area adjacent to Old Ridgebury and Reserve Road. The man held a large knife in each hand, according to the police report.

"At some point during the encounter the male was shot by a Danbury Police Officer," Det. Lt. Mark Williams reported.

The man was treated at the scene, and then transported to the hospital. Neither the condition of the man nor his identity has been released, but "he was conscious and speaking at the incident scene," according to the report. No police officers were injured during the incident.

"Per state and Danbury Police Department policy, the investigation is being conducted by the CT State Police is being overseen by the Danbury State’s Attorney office," Williams said.
