Danbury Police Warn Of New Email Scam

DANBURY, CT — Police are cautioning residents about falling for the latest email scam.

The Danbury Police Department took to social media to warn about an email that appears to be from the FBI, requesting the recipient to contact a third party to arrange for the delivery of a large sum of money.

The cops are reminding residents that "the FBI does not send emails requesting assistance in the delivery of money."

The FBI maintains an Internet Crime Complaint Center where you can file a report if you think you are being scammed, either from these current bad actors or by anyone in the future. Note, too, that the FBI does not send mass emails to private citizens about cyber scams, so if you received an email that claims to be from the FBI Director or other top official, it is most likely a scam.

If you receive unsolicited e-mail offers or spam, you can also forward the messages to the Federal Trade Commission at spam@uce.gov.

Last month, the agency warned about a "fake hiring scam" in which victims turned over personal information to bad guys posing as a potential employer.
