Danbury Resident Among Wealthiest in America

Danbury resident and Subway co-founder Peter Buck is the 171st wealthiest person in America, according to Forbes’ annual list of the 400 wealthiest Americans.
Buck, 84, co-founded the chain restaurant with Fred DeLuca, opening their first shop “Pete’s Submarines” in Bridgeport in 1965. By 1974, the duo was operating 16 locations across the state and began franchising. Today, Subway is the world’s largest submarine sandwich chain with more than 40,000 locations across the world, surpassing the number of McDonald’s.
DeLuca, 67, passed away earlier this month after losing his battle to leukemia.

Most of the wealthiest Americans from Connecticut reside in Greenwich, one in Branford and of course Buck. The wealthiest Connecticut resident is Ray Dalio, of Greenwich, who is worth $15.3 billion and is ranked No. 29 overall.
According to Forbes, Buck is worth $3.5 billion.
